02-24 Exercise 100 words
Gerald knew he was no Atlas. He was bookish and scrawny, with knees that stuck out opposite directions and concave biceps. He went to the gym out of discipline to exercise his body and mind, nothing more. The guys at the gym ignored, but didn't bully him, which was a blessing.
The girls, however, giggled as he approached the squat rack, and that, he hated. Preening in the mirror at their own muscled bodies, they derided him.
Gerald used that rage to fuel him. He determined he would build enough muscle to shut them up. One rep at a time.
02-25 Toast 70 words
"Cheers to Hal! He survived 32 years in this place. Going out in style." Charlie was never much good at public speaking; now, drunk at noon, he could hardly put words together for Hal's last toast. Hal, bitter about forced retirement, just nodded and raised his own glass. "Cheers to you Charlie. Drink up."
Hal was careful not to sip from his own glass. He knew what was in it.
02-26 Whim 50 words
Shelby never acted on a whim, so when she packed a bag and walked away, everyone knew something had been very wrong for a very long time. What they could not have guessed was that in Shelby’s mind, everything was finally right. Nothing was in her way: she was free.
02-27 Ring 60 words
Ring around the rosy, a pocket full of posy. Ashes, ashes. We all fall down.
Cadence could not get the macabre rhyme out of her head. Through the microscope, she recognized the deadly virus, ready for war. As a weapon, it could wipe out a third of the population easily. The trouble before her now was how to protect herself.
That’s it for this week. The promptmaster (@miguels4) is buried in his day job, but I’m still aiming to write something daily. I missed a couple this week, but glad to have managed a few of these!
