Five of Clubs a 100-word story
"The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." Nelson Mandela
Stella considered her position. It wasn't as dire as she originally thought; she had dug her way out of deeper places before. The question was how to get a handhold into the muddy walls. Stella's run through the trees had come to a crashing halt- literally - when she stepped on the false trail and plummeted.
Without warning, a rope flew toward her. It was knotted four times, with a fifth knot, ending in a three-headed club. She looked up, but could not see who secured the top. Sighing, Stella put her foot in the center loop, and began to climb.
Erica Drayton's 100-word story challenge this month is based on Tarot cards. I decided to pull my prompts from a regular deck of playing cards, drawn randomly, and a Google-generated quote.
Clubs strike again. :)
