I’ve decided to pull my prompts from a regular deck of playing cards, drawn randomly, and a random quote. Thanks to Erica Drayton for the inspiration.
It was there for the taking. Bright and reflective, Hraefn saw at once this diamond would need little cutting to release the fullness of its refractive powers. It looked loose, like someone came before and cut it away from the rock so all he had to do was pluck it and run. He snatched it and raised his hand to the sky crying, "This prize shall make me king!"
In a flash, a raven clawed the diamond from his hand, leaving nothing but a fistful of blood behind. Once again, the diamond splashed into its place, and nothing was changed.
Thanks to Reedsy for the cool name. Hraefn means “He who is like the raven.”
