Three prompts from , two of my own that I set up in case I needed extra
May 26 Memorial 50
It didn't look special: just a large stack of 12 stones near the river. Most people walked by without noticing. Ezra, however, knew every detail in the stones. It told him about his people coming to this land long ago. He put one hand on the memorial, promising to remember.
May 27 Service 80
Jamie picked up another empty beer can and added it to her bag. Behind her stretched a line of other middle-schoolers wearing neon vests, carrying trash picker sticks and bags. The last week of camp was always dedicated to community service in the form of collecting garbage from the creek. She grumbled as she added faded candy wrappers, cigarette butts, and a child's tennis shoe to her bag.
She didn't see eyes watching her from the shadows, silently thanking her.
May 28 Wolf 60
With a howl, the wolf called out to his mate. The little girl wasn't frightened, but her father held his rifle tightly.
"Papa, why are you afraid of the wolf?"
"Wolves are dangerous predators who gobble up little girls."
She laughed and hugged him, pulling on her new hooded red cape. Basket in hand, she skipped to visit her granny.
May 29 Sky 100
Day after day, Laurie looked at the sky. The first week of summer was supposed to be all day at the pool. Instead, it rained. Gloomy, chilly, and wet made the days drag.
Day after day, Sam looked at the sky. The first week of the season was supposed to be about rain to water his family orchard and ensure sweet fruit. Instead, just sun. Bright, hot, and dry made the days drag.
When Laurie and Sam met in college, they talked about their memories of that upside-down weather year, making "through sunshine and rain" part of their wedding vows.
May 30 Mermaid 80
Her sisters never understood why she didn't kill the prince. He was supposed to fall in love with her--with or without her voice. When he married the princess, the youngest sister was doomed. The elder sisters bought the knife, so the youngest could slice the prince's throat. Instead, she kissed him, throwing the knife back into the sea. What they didn't know was that, instead of turning to seafoam, the little mermaid joined the loving, joyful sisters of the air.
These are all good, but I especially liked what you did with "Sky" and "Mermaid."
