“there has to be a reason”
A character celebrating a holiday
He flapped, but nothing happened. His wings felt weighed down, as if all the Independence Day decorations had woven themselves into his feathers. So he hopped and flapped, hoping his body would connect to his brain and respond properly.
“There has to be a reason,” he thought. He turned his head as far as it could go to the left. Then to the right. Then he saw the culprit.
One long string of mildly adhesive plastic had wound itself around a group of secondary feathers on his right wing. Flying was futile until he got it removed. As he pecked at it, he brooded over one thought:
“Humans. Harumph. Once I get out of this, I will leave my mark on their monument to progress.”
Eventually the eagle spread his wings and flew over a row of Fords and Chevys. One white hood would soon wear his declaration of independence.
